My wife recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. I’ve got my own health issues but can’t bear the thought of moving away from our family home that we lived in for 40 years. Every room holds a memory of her, and I want to hold on to that for as long as possible. One of my three daughters has been helping me recently, but she also works, and I feel a burden on her so we both agreed to see what’s out there that could help me stay at home and monitor my health. A friend recommended PHL Youla and it has turned out wonderfully. My daughter ordered it online and within 10 days it was installed. At first it was a bit odd, but very quickly I forgot that the sensors were even there. For the first 14 days I received a daily phone call from the PHL Youla call centre and I felt like they really took the time to get to know me.
Now when they call, it’s a nice break in what can sometime be a long and lonely day. Last week I wasn’t feeling my normal self and spent the day in my armchair hoping it would pass. As I hadn’t moved or used my kettle or fridge, I received a call to ask me how I was feeling. I’d not eaten breakfast or lunch so a kindly nudge to persuade me to make some tea and toast perked me up a bit. I also received a call from a PHL Youla clinician and feel so reassured to have received their care. I know how stretched the NHS are, so would never have contacted my doctor, but I see now that by nipping things in the bud before they get worse is the best course of treatment for me. I’m so grateful to be able to have such quick access to a GP who can write me a NHS prescription.
I used to be an engineer before I retired and love technology, so finding PHL Youla and learning how it uses AI to help people stay independent in their own homes really appealed to me. I was fascinated to learn that the sensors around my home feed information into the hub which is then transferred to the PHL Youla dashboard to be analysed. The sensors can’t see me or hear me, they only track my movements. Where PHL Youla is clever is that it doesn’t just raise the alarm if there’s a problem, it can also do something about it.
Their call centre can contact me 24/7 and they have clinicians on hand to speak to me. I find this very reassuring, considering how stretched my GP surgery is and how hard it is to get an appointment when I need one. I’m consider myself to be pretty healthy and haven’t had any serious health scares, but my daughter used to worry about me. She doesn’t live close by and with a young family herself she can’t drop everything and drive to me if I need help. Since installing PHL Youla, she has the same piece of mind I have, knowing that should my health change and I need help PHL Youla are there for me.
I recently had a hip replacement and was so happy to get back to my own home to recover that it’s made me determined to find a way to stay in my home as long as possible. Nursing homes are not for me, and I don’t like the idea of having carers coming into my home. My daughter heard about PHL Youla and gave me a brochure. I didn’t like the idea of sensors in my home at first, but when I found out more, I realised that the sensors don’t infringe on my privacy at all. There are no cameras, and no one can hear me. My daughter has legal power of attorney for me, so she signed me up on the PHL Youla website.
Recently, I woke up and felt a bit funny and didn’t get up and make my usual cup of tea. Within an hour the phone went and a lovely lady from PHL Youla asked me how I was feeling as I’d not used the kettle or opened the fridge door as I usually do. Well, I was so surprised but also so relieved to receive the call. We had a chat and I ended up speaking to one of PHL Youla’s GPs who helped me tremendously and got me a prescription. I feel very safe and looked after on the PHL Youla service.
I’ve lived by myself for more than 10 years since my husband passed away. Recently I had a fall and it knocked my confidence and made me think that it would be a good idea to look into different options to help look after myself as I get older. It’s important to me to stay in my own home, as it’s where my memories of my husband and raising my sons are. If I have a problem, I need a system that does more than just alert my sons to a problem as that wouldn’t help, as one lives in America and the other has a busy job in the City. I needed a way to ensure my independence and have access to medical professionals when I need it
I looked at what’s available and was delighted to find PHL Youla. The process from start to finish was extremely easy. With the help of my son, when he was visiting one weekend, I placed an order online and a shortly after the sensors and hub were installed in my home. I started receiving calls straight away and using the medical equipment. It’s great – and has given me real peace of mind and comfort to know that PHL Youla are there for me in case anything happens.
